Plantacote® Cal-Knight is a unique controlled release nutrient delivery system, a one application method to supply both nitrate nitrogen and calcium through an entire crop cycle. Every Cal-Knight granule is coated to ensure a uniform release and optimum nutrient availability. Both the nitrogen and calcium in Cal-Knight are released by diffusion through a proprietary coating process which is controlled by temperature. Stated release times are based on an average soil temperature of 70º F. Higher temperatures slightly accelerate release – lower temperatures slow it down. The release of nutrients is virtually unaffected by substrate type, pH, microorganisms, or level of irrigation. Plantacote Cal-Knight starts to release its nutrients in approximately 1 week following application. This characteristic ensures the safety of the product on newly potted plant material, and allows storage in premixed growing media for up to 3 or more weeks.
Release of nutrients from Plantacote Cal-Knight is attuned to the physiological requirements of most crops, with release of nitrogen greater during crop establishment, and release of calcium more pronounced during the later stages of growth and development.

X-Calibur’s unique polymer coating process has produced Plantacote Cal-Knight 10-2-10 + 10 Ca. This new product opens a world of application opportunities, and is especially desirable for flowering annuals and perennials, resulting in more flowers, thicker stronger stems, and less internode stretch.
Plantacote Cal-Knight Blend releases its nutrients safely and consistently for up to 5 months, and can be used either as the sole source of nutrients, or in conjunction with a water soluble program. The addition of Cal-Knight Blend will help eliminate the nutrient peaks and valleys associated with a water soluble nutrient regime.
The release of nutrients in Plantacote Cal-Knight Blend is controlled by soil temperature. As temperatures increase Plantacote Cal-Knight Blend provides an additional nutrient supply, and as temperatures cool, nutrient release is reduced. This insures that more nutrients will be available when plants need them, and will be reduced as plant growth slows. Since Plantacote Cal-Knight nutrient release is attuned to plant demand, in addition to producing higher quality plants, Cal-Knight virtually eliminates nutrient runoff.
